We got quite a bit of snow. Jake went to work this morning for a couple hours and then called and said he was coming home to play in the snow with the boys. We all worked together (except for Naomi, who was napping) and made an igloo that the kids are loving! Jake went back to work in the afternoon, but we are all thankful he could come home for some play time.

This year was a more intimate family party. Josh had a blast skiing with his dad. He came home to a home-made Birthday crown and his chair decorated (a tradition that he ask we start- I was all for it). If you look carefully you'll see that I caught Dekker mid-jump in one of these pictures. He was about as excited as Josh was to open presents. I love the picture of Josh giving Dekker a hug and thanking him for the Star Wars Trouble game he picked out and gave to him. Oh and did you see the silly bands on Josh's arm- yeah he got quite a few for his Birthday as well! We love our Josh and all six years we've spent with him as part of our family.

This boy came into my world. I am so grateful he did. He is such a kind hearted kid. I sweet son and brother. I love him.
He and his dad are up skiing today. Tonight we'll do pizza, cake and presents with a small gathering of loved ones (even years we keep it small family style). I'll post pics from that later- don't you worry.

Josh lost his second tooth yesterday. This one happened FAST. Saturday he complained that his gums were hurting. We checked and didn't find any loose teeth. Sunday morning he woke up saying he had a loose tooth. And he wasn't kidding. It was really loose, he asked Jake to try to take it out after church. Jake gave it a good yank and Josh was sent to tears and wouldn't let him touch it. Josh kept fiddling with it though, and a few minutes later pulled it out the rest of the way by himself!
Naomi never liked her swing, but it turns into a toddler rocking seat, which she loves, so at least its getting use that way! It's seriously one of her favorite things lately, to climb up into it and rock- and her other favorite thing- phones, especially when we put music on it for her.

It's our tradition to go get our Christmas tree for FHE the Monday after Thanksgiving. This year was no different. Dekker picked the tree this year- and it's a great one! We brought it home, turned on Christmas music, made hot chocolate and got out all the ornaments and other decorations. Okay, we picked up some treats from The Sweet Tooth Fairy as well! And we were so happy that Tio and Brynn came over to decorate with us.
Jake kept saying over and over, "This is always one of my favorite nights of the year!"
It was nice to see Jake's Dad, Brenda, his Grandma & Grandpa, and his Aunt Sue and Uncle Roy (not to mention Brea and Tom). Unfortunately Naomi only slept from 10-1 Thursday night, during which we were up playing games- so its a bit of a blur in my fuzzy memory. Luckily Vernal is just three hours away, and so the one-night-only trip was doable.
Josh and Dekker had a blast though! They got to play the Wii, watch movies, go to the dinosaur museum and get spoiled since they were the only kids there.

She loved her gifts. She bestowed kisses on some, enjoyed ripping the paper off of others, and had fun checking out everything she received. She loved being the center of attention too; at the end evening she started doing this pose where she'd lay her head to one side and give a huge grin- real flirtatios like. We love you Naomi!
The Red Velvet with cookies and cream ice cream and chocolate gnash frosting is tradition until they start asking for something different. It was a hit of course. She loved it. And the sugar gave her enough of a "high" to be sweet and smily for present time despite her cold and not feeling 100%.

I love Stephanie Nielson's blog. Not too long back she posted this:
Such a sweet perfect family moment. Maybe a bed, set up in the wilderness and a promise of a pillow fight would create such a sweet peaceful scene for our bunch too. But my guess is not. See, I think I failed to mention that my dad was here for a weekend towards the end of October. I thought I would get my dad to take some family pictures for us. Unfortunately it rained pretty much the entire time he was here. At one point we thought we'd catch a break in the rain, and so got everyone dressed and ready (quite the feat), and loaded into the car, and drove to our chosen location, only to find complete downpour upon arrival. Once we got home we thought we'd open the windows and doors in our front room and see if we couldn't make do. By we I mean me and my dad. No one else seemed to think it was a good idea.
So I'm sharing with you a bit of how it went... for laughs if nothing else. I love my family. I do.
Oh, and my dad did catch some awesome individual ones somehow (which I'll share at a later date)- but as you can see from my new header- a good group shot was not to be!

Here are a few from Halloween. I have more from my phone and Jake's that we took at Cornbelly's during the day on Saturday. It was a good thing we went up early to do that, because the afternoon and evening turned stormy and WET. Garrett and Racheal volunteered to take the kids trick or treating. They even got a little dressed up themselves. I think they hit 3-4 homes before Dekker decided he was too cold and wet and wanted to come back home. I think most trick or treaters must have felt the same, since we only had half a dozen come to our door. The kids got to watch Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin though, and we did an impromptu bobbing for apples and so the night turned out to be lots of fun despite the rain. HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

...and we've seen better days. Sadly Naomi and I are both battling a yucky cold right now, but we'll survive. Yes, I may have had to edit out some boogers in these photos. Naomi has recently begun taking her first steps. 4 good ones is her best so far. Mostly she gets really excited and just lunges forward and falls- It's pretty cute to be honest. She has a lopsided smile right now, with three teeth on top and two on bottom. Since the top ones came in I've slowly started weaning. Luckily we found a camelback sippie she'll actually drink out of, and have since found two other straw-type sippies that she'll take. So we're down to nursing just 3-4 times in 24 hours. She loves to try all kinds of table foods. She's picking up on more and more sign language and loves to use the classic "Dis, dis" while pointing at objects of interest. Oh and she loves to dance and "sing".

Anyone who knows me, knows I love house improvement projects. We've done a lot of them over the years. When Jake went back to school though our time and financial budget for that sort of thing was seriously cut back. Well, I found a killer deal on a new vanity and convinced Jake the basement bathroom could be a simple and affordable project. Luckily, I was right! The project went really smoothly. We tore out the old vanity (I had restained it a while back, but the top and faucet still dated it quite a bit), put in slate tiles (to match what we put in by our basement exit door) over the lennolium, tore out the broken nasty shower door, put in new baseboards and BAM! New bathroom! Jake was a sweetheart for using precious free time to help me get it done in just one week. Here are some picture to document.

She is growing up way too fast. She is ten months old today! Three teeth and the fourth about to come through any day now. Officially going both up AND DOWN the stairs on her own. Becoming more and more aware of her power to manipulate through cries, laughs, snuggles, kisses and yelling. Oh how we love her!

Our little cul-de-sac is home to 20+ kids ten and under. Needless to say there is lots going on. Lately they've been having fun cruising around on some old skateboards. Today they constructed a ramp (with adult supervision) and took turns going down it.

As if starting Kindergarten wasn't proof enough of how big he's getting... The night of his first day at school I discovered he had a loose tooth. I was looking at him and noticed his tooth looked out of place and upon closer inspection found it to be VERY loose, when I told him this he said, "See Mom. I TOLD you!" At that moment I remembered him telling me a little while back that he had a loose tooth- we'd just come in from playing outside with neighbor kids, one of whom had just lost another tooth and so I dismissed it saying, "No Josh, you're still too young for that." Well, I learned my lesson. Next time I'll be a better listener! Anyway, Jake and Josh wiggled and pulled on it that same night, but decided to give it some more time. Josh must have been fiddling with it in the night because he came up the next morning and asked Dad to try pulling it out again, and this time it came right out. As you can tell (if you dare look close enough) his adult replacement tooth is already coming in. CRAZY!

Today is the BIG DAY! The boys woke up with so much excitement. I told them they could wear whatever they wanted on their first day. They hurried and got dressed and then we took the traditional photos. Dekker had his first day of preschool this morning, and Josh heads to Kindergarten after lunch. I can't believe they're growing up so fast! They're both ready for the new learning ahead though, and it feels good to be getting back into some steady routines again!
